1. Who is Charlie Smith?

    Charlie Smith started the business in 1930. The shop was located at Cypress and 3rd Ave in Vancouver. He passed away in his mid nineties.

2. Who are the current principle operators of the business?

   Rob Zamprogno, journeyman machinist. Rob is the shop foreman and deals with customers. He can also be found visiting customers to get a better understanding of their business in order to provide better service.

Ernie Kovacs, journeyman machinist. Ernie is a field specialist and is often on job sites. He has a fully equipped 5 ton truck.

Steve Andrews, sales and marketing. Steve is often meeting customers and provides the link between the customer and the shop. He wants the customer to think of Charlie Smith Machine Works as an extension of their maintenance department.

3. How many staff do you have?

   15 workers comprising mainly of journeyman machinists, welders and mechanics with three office staff.

4. What are your hours?

   We run from 6 AM to 10:30 PM Monday to Friday. We are available on weekends with prior arrangement. We also can work 24 hrs a day with prior arrangement.

5. Are you union?

    Yes, our machinists belong to the Aerospace and Machinist Union.

6. Are you willing to work outside of BC?

   Yes, we will work anywhere in Canada and the USA.

7. What are your rates?

    Very competitive, but more importantly, we have a very experienced staff with good resources to get any job done efficiently and cost-effectively. There is a $5/hr. extra charge for field work.

8. Are you hiring?

   We are always on the look out for good experienced machinists who would like to work in a jobber/repair manual shop. In particular we like versatile people and people with field experience. We will also consider taking on pre-apprentices who have an interest and an aptitude for manual machining.
